We’re excited to announce an amazing new addition to our talented team of Providers at Dermatology Clinic of Idaho.
Please join us in giving a warm Treasure Valley welcome to Dr. John L. Peterson, MD, PhD, a Board-Certified Dermatologist.
Peterson has nearly 40 years of experience in dermatology at multiple private practices since his time with the Army Medical Corps. He’s a member of various well-known organizations including the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and a founding member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
He was inspired to become a Doctor because of his love for science. Peterson told us, “Medical school seemed a natural extension and then dermatology because it combined the best of general medicine and surgery.”
4 Tips from a Skin Care Expert
What are some skin care and skin cancer awareness tips Dr. Peterson wants patients to know?
- Wear sunscreen every day. This is critical for everyone. Make sure you reapply regularly, too. (Get some suggestions for great sunscreens here in our blog post where we share some of our favorite skin care products.)
- Stay out of the sun during peak hours. Even with sunscreen, avoiding the intense sunlight between 11 am and 2 pm is something your skin will thank you for doing.
- Get an annual skin care exam. Once a year, have your Skin Care Provider check your skin for any issues, abnormalities, or concerns. Annual skin exams can help you catch potential skin cancer earlier, so you can treat anything sooner.
- Look out for changes in moles. You should get any moles that change shape, size, or color checked out immediately. It’s also a good idea to see your Skin Care Provider if you have any changes or concerns with your skin to rule out cancer or learn of treatment options.
